Evelina by Frances Burney

Not really my cup of tea. I read this for my 18th-century English class. I may have enjoyed it if I spent more time with it and savoured the experience. I also didn’t understand the humour a lot of the time, and when I did, it wasn’t the super funny, laugh-out-loud type of humour. I also hated Sir Clement Willoughby and Captain Mirvan. Which I know sounds controversial, because you don’t have to like all the characters in order to enjoy a book, but they were sooooo annoying–especially Sir Clement Willoughby. It was interesting at first, especially since it was my first time reading an epistolary novel, but eventually the interest started to dissipate and it wasn’t as enjoyable for me. I think it kind of got repetitive and that was the main reason why I began to lose interest. 3.4 ⭐️’s
