No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy

5.0

That was incredible! I was immediately sucked in from page 1 and it absolutely did not let up.

This is my third Cormac McCarthy novel, and although I liked the other two (The Road, All the Pretty Horses) quite a bit, this one is by far my favorite. The fast paced and action packed style of writing needed to tell this story feels perfect for the author's prose.

I was amazed at how much he was able to tell by writing so little. I could see the crime scenes, I could smell the gunsmoke on the air, in just a few clipped sentences. I identified with all the characters. I adored the dialogue. I could NOT put this down until it was done. Both the action in the book and the "feels" of the slower sections are incredible. I can now safely agree with the majority that Cormac McCarthy is a master of the American novel, and he accomplishes that in a style of prose that is more unique than any other work of fiction I've read.

I can't wait to read my next Cormac novel - and after how much I loved this one, you can be sure Blood Meridian will be up next!
