First things first: There are elements of Daddy in Jericho’s desire to care for Poe, but I just saw those moments as someone trying to help someone else out; there wasn’t any real drive behind it, except the “pay it forward” attitude Jericho kept reiterating when the subject came up. As another reviewer said, this book is Daddy kink for people who don’t actually like kink, so if the blurb made you think otherwise, we’re here to tell you the truth.
Landon and Poe’s relationship is, by far, the most dynamic thing about this book. Landon clearly loves his son, and Poe loves his father, and I loved the little snippets of their father/son connection. I felt the love Landon had for Poe and the respect Poe had for his father easily…
…compared to the actual couple of the book, Jericho and Poe, whose relationship just felt forced and more supervisory than loving. Idk. They were fine together? It was all just really quick, with no real in-between after Poe’s POV where he doesn’t want more than sex, and then we’re just… given them. It’s all very strange and fast. Like I said, I enjoyed the actual father/son relationship here much more than the supposed Daddy/boy dynamic that I wrongly assumed would be more.
(Also, as an aside: Even though it wasn’t for longer than a page or so, an ex being a tool to get an MC jealous is an awful and hair-raising problem for me lol, so I very specifically do not like Jericho’s ex’s character for it. I’m sure there’s a book with him and Blue in-progress or finished, but nah.)
Anyway. This wasn’t written terribly, but it had no real substance or direction, other than “oh, we’re together, and I call him Daddy, but my father is only Landon.” I’d have loved a more detailed explanation of the relationship between Blue and Poe through Landon’s eyes or something else, anything else, that would have let me give this at least three stars, but all I got were scraps of paper and implied want with no evidence except an almost-kiss shotgun and some hostility when Blue said Jericho’s name.
All that said, I made it through the book without secondhand embarrassment which has become an unattainable experience over the last several I’ve attempted lol, so I think I’d maybe like to see what else the authors have written together, but I do hope they’ve continued to hone their skills.
