Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

This book really amazed me. I can't believe that, in under 150 pages, I grew to love these characters. I would love to read their whole life's story (and in their case, being immortal, that really says something) but still these few pages were thoroughly satisfying.

Reading this we are presented with a kid character that was both believable and likable. In my taste, children in fiction are often only one of these things, but not here. I liked her arc, especially since it is not obvious from the beginning that one of her thoughts will lead to one.

Just to get it out of the way: I can see why people are having problems with a seventeen old (or even older) boy proposing to a ten year old girl, but I think it makes sense in both context and time period, and anyway, it was less a serious marriage proposal than "let's travel and have fun" so who cares.

I would love to talk more about this book, but since it is that short, better experience it yourself.
