Listeriosis: An MM Horror by Free Mints

4.5 stars. I really appreciate the author for doing such an amazing job with the horror and gore in this book. It managed to make me squirm at the gross stuff, it doesn't happen often to me even when I consume films within the same category. I wasn't expecting this book to dive deep into eroguro, so I admire that commitment. Despite not being my thing, I still enjoy when books get a strong reaction out of me.
This one picks up right after Loukas goes away to have some time by himself after that event. He plans to go back despite not wanting to, until he suddenly gets an offer by Xander to stay with him. Xander encourages him in more than one way, his goal being to make Loukas reach his maximum potential. Meanwhile, Hide is dealing with the aftermath and his own personal issues, deciding between giving Loukas a chance or not.
Once again, the pacing was great and at no moment the plot felt boring. Loukas remains my favorite character, Xander coming in second place. I didn't expect to care for Loukas so much, but I was really rooting for him. Is he sick? Absolutely. I just really like fucked up characters when they're well written, which is this case.
About the relationship, I have to admit that I was mostly into Xander/Loukas, theirs had such an amazing chemistry that it got me doubting the endgame. I did end up liking Loukas/Hide by the end though, it's interesting how their dynamic evolved a lot, going from interchangeable predator and prey to Hide holding Loukas' reins. Despite Hide being at a clear disadvantage, I found it nice that he had Loukas wrapped around his finger. I support a freak4freak couple.
I do think this book goes more into self-discovery, the exploration of true desires and self-destruction, rather than actual romance. I was still okay with that, since I enjoy horror and coming og age elements, which were combined here. Nice story, I think it'll stay in my mind for a long time.
PS. I freaking loved the "baby boy" petname.
