Five Decembers by James Kestrel

3.0

Most reviews of this book praised it for being a combination crime thriller, war epic, and love story. To me, it tried to do too much. Pick a couple of those and focus. The story was good, the case interesting, but it felt at least 1/3 longer than it needed to be. I felt like the war epic really dragged in the middle.

Also, I read a lot of thrillers, but the descriptions in this are definitely not for the squeamish.

This was the first selection for a new book club, so I'll be interested to see what everyone else thought.
