This is such a weird, dark story. The narrative style is just odd enough to be different and interesting, but accessible and timed well enough to make sense for the story.
It's not perfect, but Awad's prose is at times beautiful, unique, and visceral, and also sometimes a little self-indulgent; but because of the characters and story, it works. I'll be reading more of her.
