I enjoyed this book! I’m left feeling sad but also like gays still win even in sadness. I went in having barely any information bc idk anything about Greek mythology except what I learned from playing Hades which is still very little.

The writing pace was too slow for me. It felt like I was dragging my feet through this entire book even in moments of high action and excitement. While I did enjoy the read, I never found myself itching to get to the next reading session.

Also I understand that the book takes place in Ancient Greece but I still do not like how women are portrayed. We don’t get many women characters that are crucial to the plot. Briseis is an exception in terms of development for me but she’s also a captive so like have we really something to latch on to here? I wonder if more could have been done with her character. Maybe the author is limited by the source material? But even so when you’re writing an adaptation why not make some choices to change?

Overall a good read. The writing itself is poetic and word choice is always deliberate and impactful. Miller writes slow but beautifully.
