Overall, this was a strong debut!
Dash and Davis were certainly loveable, and I give a lot of grace to any annoyances I have due to the time period and setting. I can recognize that any stiffness, aloofness, and hesitancy within the characters comes from how society viewed women (and men) in the 1930s.
My only real complaint is that the writing style was quite wordy and long-winded at times, which distracted me from the otherwise enjoyable plot of the book. Unfortunately, this aspect of the writing style made it clunky at times, and I caught myself skimming for dialogue and plot points that moved the story forward. No romcom needs to be more than 350 pages.
I am a sucker for a "he's loved her the whole time, and she just didn't realize it" trope! I'll definitely be trying future books from this author!
