Wow What a story....
Growing up in Greece we all Know Of Maria Callas and Onassis.
"You will never be a Has-been You will always be Maria Callas whether singing or not"
Its a Historical Novel Starting At the End when Maria Faces News of the Wedding Of Onassis to Jackie Kennedy. Before taking us to New York 1956 when she starts attending the same functions and Meets Onassis.
I thought the Authors way of Writing was Superb It was almost like the Diva herself is telling you her story - With comparisons the the Opera she stars in to the happenings in her life and the coins she is constantly counting in relation to her voice.
When the Whole Love Affair With Ari Happens, she returns to her Greek roots, Maybe finding a Acceptance with Ari she never had with her mother. The way she is Forsaken is heartbreaking and how Very few only really see Maria Even more so.
Her Desperation for Ari's Love and His Neglect of her feelings and Loyalties and his Ultimate Betrayal is the Real Greek Tragedy.
The story was so Beautifully done that we don't see the separation of Callas and Onassis, Only his beseeching return in which Callas shows here Backbone - The Novel stops there
I would Have love to read the Affair that continued on but i think the Author timed it so us the reader still had the respect the Diva Deserved.
