Sweet Tooth Vol. 2: In Captivity by Jeff Lemire
4.0
Decided I should try to get more caught up on the Sweet Tooth comics before watching the new TV adaptation. There's much in the series that continues to be very impressive, including the nuanced character motivations and the seamless incorporation of flashbacks. In Volume 2 we get Jeppard's backstory, but it almost seemed to answer some of the big questions a little too easily, after the cliffhanger at the end of the first arc. Also I had really forgotten how bleak, scary and violent the universe of the comic was. A world where all the regular humans is dead or dying of a plague is maybe not quite what I wanted to read when we're still living through a pandemic. Can't fault the book for that but it just wasn't right for me right now.
