The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

4.0

I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like this book in my life, in all the best ways.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue tells the story of Addie, a young woman who traded her soul for immortality. However, everyone she meets forgets her, she cannot leave any impact on the world. But centuries later, someone changes that.

The plot to this book was so incredibly unique, I absolutely loved it. I found myself talking about it to anyone who would listen, whether they like books or not. I always find it astounding when an author is able to come up with something completely new. Schwab absolutely nailed it with this book. I loved learning the ins and outs of Addie’s curse. The writing is absolutely stunning, I found myself noting so many sections where Schwab had created such a beautiful sentiment through words. The writing itself is truly a work of art. The book also deals with some incredibly important topics which I didn’t expect but absolutely loved!

My main issues with this book was that I felt it was a little long, and a little bit too repetitive for me. After a while the same things just seemed to keep happening, similar flashbacks involving the dark, people forgetting Addie. I understand that this is the premise, but it just took some of the originality and enjoyment away from me. That being said, I loved the last section of the book and found myself really moved by it, I even had tears in my eyes at one point! This has definitely solidified my love for the fantasy genre and I absolutely want to read more books by this author.

I recommend this book to fans of fantasies with a romantic/historical fiction vibe threaded through it.
