Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

re-read 2020
I love this book so much...
It's probably my second favorite book of all time, I love these characters and they got the ending they deserved.

first read 2018
I know that Sarah J Maas and her books are incredibly problematic, but, despite that, I still enjoy the books and find them a lot of fun. Specifically the Throne of Glass series, I prefer this one way more than ACOTAR, and the reason for that is because this series was there for me in some bad times, my escape was these characters, this world, so, in a way, I'm happy and sad to see this series end. And this finale was everything I wished it was.
I was a little afraid of reading it because I wasn't the biggest fan of ACOWAR, and I really didn't want that SJM did the same thing she did, but thankfully she didn't.
This book is so long and there's so much stuff that happens so I'm going to list the things I liked and the ones I didn't like, I'm also going to mark it as spoilers because in some cases I'm going to go in detail.
SpoilerTHINGS I LIKED:
-The POV changes in the chapters. I know a lot of people don't like this but I loved it, I think it was so much better than in EOS, it kept the story moving, and didn't make it boring.
-The Manon and Dorian's chapters. I loved them, I always love Manon's chapters but for some reason, these were even more amazing, I always wanted to come back to them, more than all of the other POVs.
-Dorian. He was never one of my favorite characters, and now in my whole re-read of the series, and in this one, I appreciated him a lot more, he turned into one of my favorites.
-Aelin's journey. In EOS I wasn't the biggest fan of Aelin, and I think a large reason for that was because she was keeping information from us and in this one, I loved her whole journey, I felt way closer to her character.
-The battle scenes. Especially the ones in the end, they were epic, and listening to the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soundtrack made it so much better.
-Elide and Lorcan. They were my favorite part of EOS and in this one, it was no different. I love them and I ship them so much, which I'm happy about because on Heir of Fire and on Queen of Shadows, I fell out of love with all of the ships.
-Manon and Dorian. I was one of the few that was always on board with this ship and I really enjoyed the direction that the relationship took.
-The Thirteen's sacrifice. Now, this was something that I was unfortunately spoiled for, and despite the fact that I was prepared for their deaths it still made me emotional and made me cry, but it was necessary to happen.
-The fact that Yrene was the one that saved pretty much everyone. She has now turned into one of my favorite characters.
-The epilogue and the ending. It was beautiful and again, made me cry.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
-The Terrasen's and Anielle's battle scenes in part one. I honestly thought that they were kind of boring and so drawn out that I wanted them to be over already.
-The fact that pretty much all of the Tower of Dawn characters were kind of ignored. I felt that they were just there, and I'm not talking about Chaol and Yrene who actually played a big part in the story, I'm talking about Sartaq, Nesyrn, Hasar, Etc.
-Aedion. I was never a big fan of him, and in my re-read, I began to like him even less, and in this one I really disliked him, he was just so annoying, he was always angry and fighting with everyone, being horrible to Lysandra, I honestly wanted to punch him in the face.

Overall, this book was amazing, it's now not only one of my favorite books of all time and my favorite installment of this series, but one of the best finales I've ever read.
