Bring Down the Little Birds: On Mothering, Art, Work, and Everything Else by Carmen Giménez Smith

emotional reflective medium-paced

4.75

This book is incredible and brought me to tears more than once. The monologue Giménez Smith writes feels incredibly raw and puts on display the love and difficulties of motherhood, the generational ties between mothers and daughters, the difficulties in finding space for oneself when the entire being becomes home and nourishment for another being (and all the love and resentment and fear and hope and dreaming that comes with it all). I had previously started this book and stopped reading it because it felt incredibly overwhelming, but I am glad to have finished it now. I’ll likely be thinking about it for some time.
