“Chasing Homer” combines prose narrative with paintings and percussive musical accompaniment (accessed via QR code) to tell the story of a man (being?) being chased by unseen/unknown assassin(s). Although the music provokes the anxiety one would feel from fleeing for their life, as the text is completely the inner monologue of the protagonist, and he often deviates to contemplating philosophical questions, the narrative doesn’t deliver the same intensity as the music. The three mediums still make for a fun blend to this story, even if the overall effect was not quite achieved (the musical piece would often end before I had even made it half-way through the chapter). The writing is excellently executed, and surprisingly clear for the stream-of-conscious style. There are plenty of allusions to Greek mythology and even a recap of the Calypso episode of “The Odyssey,” but whatever philosophical point K was trying to make sailed right over my head. I enjoyed it enough, and it was short enough, to read it twice and still be pleasantly confused :)
