This was a good book, but not quite a fantastic book for me. I’m not sure what about this book didn’t fully grab me. I think I wanted more of Achilles’s and Patroclus’s relationship. The early stages felt a little rushed to me. They went off with Chiron and, while years passed in actually, the narrative, in my opinion didn’t do a great job of showing that. It felt a little tell-and-not-show. I think, I almost wish these were two books: their early relationship and times before the Trojan War and then the War itself. Then, I think I would have been more invested.

I do think the end of the book was really well done. I teared up, felt all of the things, and really enjoyed my reading of the last 1/4 or so. And the writing was really solid in terms of the lyrical moments and the feeling of a modern classic like story.

I definitely think that people should read it, as my issues with it are more about my personal enjoyment and not the actual merits of the text itself.
