A unique and engrossing reading experience as David B. weaves together history, legend and imagination to tell three stories about religion and war in eighth century Persia and late fourteenth/early fifteenth-century Bohemia. David B.'s art is crisp, clean and intricate, drawing inspiration from historical art and illustration as well as religious and cultural tropes, and imbuing it all with a sense of flow and dimension. The stories call to mind some of the more disturbing Grimm's fairy tales and it should make a good bedtime read for teens or adults.
