Damon works in reality television and his recent show has had a drop in viewers until someone gets injured. That leads to him and his assistant Mary to come up with a competition show in which people injure themselves for cash prizes. When Damon is determined to get a specific young man named Marty on the show, Mary becomes suspicious about Damon's motives for getting him to compete.
The concept of people putting themselves at risk of injury or death for money isn't new, but as long as there is a system in which some people are put in situations where they're desperate and will do whatever it takes to get "easy" money, stories like this will remain relevant.
Also, this is extreme horror so content warnings are redundant, but there is a lot of gore and torture in this book.
