In Every Dream Home a Heartache
Review of the Amazon Original Story ebook (July 23, 2023) released simultaneously with the Brilliance Audio audiobook.
People Like Them starts off as a Desperate Housewives story with a group of neighbours hosting a travelling community dinner. Each household serves one course: pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, a main, a dessert, after-dinner drinks etc. As the evening progresses you begin to understand the various little rivalries and tensions in the group. The main subject is the new couple on the street, Veronica and Ryan Hartley, the envy of everyone else due to their apparent idyllic marriage and lifestyle. But something is lurking behind the surface, and soon a shock crisis will occur.
The twist here made this one my favourite of the collection so far.

I definitely had to listen to Roxy Music’s In Every Dream Home a Heartache from their 2nd album “For Your Pleasure” (1973), even though the subject is definitely NOT what this story is about. But the title was a perfect fit. You can hear the song on YouTube here.
