Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
Dnf at page 120/400.
Maybe one day I will return but this book is not for me. There’s little to no world building, the protagonist is basically the typical YA Not Like The Other Girl trope who 2020 morale and pov doesn’t fit too well with the setting.
The key to a dystopia/fantasy imo is the slowly unraveling of the problems. Instead, this book force feeds the readers the problem of this fantasy world rather than letting them see it for themselves. I’m not asking Sophia to do a 180 from worshipping the rules to wanting to overthrow it but having her saying how much she hates the way things are with reckless abandonment despite the repeated claims of how scary the king and his authority is makes me think either she’s way too rash and impulsive or the world isn’t that bad.
While I appreciate the rep, I think this book and especially the world building is truly not for me.
