Pretty Little Island by Rhea Ryan

5.0

This book was intense! Right from the start we were thrown into a situation where we are left wondering what the main FMC had escaped from in her past life and why she was at her current place. Once we get a little more information, we find out that she wants to be in the newspaper group and she gets put on a special assignment which becomes a double edged sword. The obvious is to get the tea on the hockey stars and their game, but the non-obvious? Infiltrate the system and find out more about what happened last year and get the truth. And then $h!t hits the fan.

Rhea Ryan does a fantastic job of building these characters individually, and then together. This is an important aspect of the book as these teens (all 18+) are high school kids and they absolutely have that mindset. Popularity matters, looks and sports are a mindset, and if you are outside of that? Well, you just aren't anything. Rhea also does a GREAT job of building this world that the story is set in. As the students are traveling through their situation, you feel like you are there with them, all the way down to the flies biting.

This story is engaging, impactful, horrifying, and makes you question your morals. What would you do if you were trapped and had only your survival skills to rely on? Who would you trust?

It does end on a cliffy so be prepared to want to read book 2 and there are triggers so be mindful of that as well. Great book and I highly recommend for a book with some spicy scenes, some serious suspense, and some amazing build up!
