How many times can a heart be broken while reading a book?  That's how I felt about this book.  It's the first book I've read set in Sri Lanka and it definitely makes me want to pick up more. I learned about the Sri Lankan civil war and the Tamil Tigers for the first time.  Hard to find words to really capture how I felt about this one but this one is not to be missed.  The chapters are long which I personally don't love but it didn't damper at all the experience of reading this story.  This worked better for me in print. I tried to listen on audio first but had to change over to print.
