Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor
5.0
“People are beautiful when they do beautiful things.”
I had been looking forward to appreciating the weaponized chaotic charm of a novelized “Night Vale” for a while and in my new audiobook foray decided this might be the best time to finally pick it up. The world building (all angels are named Erica, the librarians are eldritch monsters, no one’s allowed in the dog park, etc.)! The narrator we’ve come to know and love, featuring a handful of brief but surprising guests! The complete and utter nonsense, akin to what I can only describe as “Opposite Day Glamouring”!
Even when you don’t know what’s going on, which is more often than not, that is by design and you’ll still have a splendid time. The points don’t matter and the rules are made up! If you’re a fan of the podcast, you’ll like this! If you’re not, your loss!
5/5 No one does big, beautiful, cosmic inanity quite like these folks.
