The Other Bridget by Rachael Johns

Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
The cute cover lied
I don't usually DNF but I had to..

- the FMC was completely unlikeable
- the dialogue is completely unrealistic especially since these are supposed to be younger people. Fabio is supposed to be Italian and speaks Italian regularly, but this man literally said, "Best be off." 🤦‍♀️ The only people I know who speak like that are 40+ year old men
- the FMCs "favourite place in the world" is Fremantle Library... which is also where she works. Just for reference, in real life, that place looks like if you put bookshelves in a Centrelink...
- there's way too much going on. By page 120, there were multiple life changing health events described on page happening to multiple characters, and even just casual mention of the main characters' eating disorder. I don't even know everyone's names properly yet. How am I supposed to care?
- there is no romance for (so far) a quarter of the book. None. Fabio is still just a barista and the neighbour is still a neighbour who she JUST learned the name of
- there's a few problematic comments that are insensitive or outdated, for example "Didn't your mum ever tell you that when a boys' mean to you it's because he's secretly crushing on you"... ew.
- there's a lot of virtue signalling behaviour and to be honest... it's kind of gross. The FMC will be rude to someone until she finds out they're going through some kind of terrible time, and then she will just slip into this magically empathetic persona 🙄
- I did skip to the end, and I'm sorry, but a ghost POV?! What the?!

Honestly, I could say more, but I hope this demonstrates exactly why this a DNF. These things aren't small issues.. if I could rate this a zero, I would
