Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young
4.0
I deeply enjoyed the atmosphere of this novel ! I found the narrative quite slow at first, but events catch up after the second half of the book. Spells for Forgetting has a strong paranormal and magical realism ambience, focusing on a small community living on the island of Saoirse. Their everyday routine scrambles the day August Salt returns. Presumed murderer of a young girl years before, his culpability was never proved.
The narrative focuses on August, his ex-girlfriend Emery Blackwood and the other inhabitants of Saoirse. As Emery investigates the past and the death of her best friend Lily, she unveils dark secrets linked to the very soul of Saoirse.
If you love witchy and autumnal atmosphere, Spells for Forgetting is a perfect read. I greatly enjoyed the audiobook with multiple narrators. It really perfectly brought the story to life. I appreciated how the story is rooted in folklore and magic and the unexpected ending.
