What a fantastic book on a historical figure too often shadowed by her illustrious parents: Cleopatra Selene. Like her mother, Cleopatra VII, she is an intriguing and inspiring woman.
Jane Draycott did a good job of explaining Cleopatra Selene's story, set up the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty and beginning of the Roman Empire, and insist on the influence of her parents, Cleopatra VII and Marcus Antonius. Her writing is clear and does a good job of making the complex story of this family accessible to a wider audience.
I would have appreciated more details on the archaeological and literary proofs, but it's a personal preference rather than criticism.
