Thank you to The Author Agency for this eArc in exchange for an honest review.
I can't go into much detail regarding the story because I don't want to spoil it, so this review is mostly going to focus on how this story made me feel.
I am blown away at the talent Harris displays in her writing in this, she doesn't just tell you William & Ryans story she immerses you in their journey and their characters so you feel every high, low, heartbreak and hope alongside them. This book deals with very sensitive and potentially upsetting/triggering themes, so please be mindful of that going in, but it is written with such care and consideration. Both William & Ryan have been through devastating experiences, Ryan especially and with his character being nonverbal and how his trauma and communication are displayed through that is incredibly impactful throughout. They both have such depth of character, and seeing William fight his own deamons alongside Ryan is heartachingly beautiful, I just wanted to wrap them up and protect them both.
This is a slow burn but it needs to be and the payoff for these two is totally worth it, the story is mainly told from William's POV, Ryan not verbally communicating and therefore William and us the reader being unable to read him matters to the overall impact of the story. The pacing of the story was great, I never felt a lull in my attention or investment overall. The spice when we get there is great and it was nice having a couple of small glimpses of characters from the Infidelity series by this author. What a way to kick-start a new series. If you're looking for an angsty, heartachingly beautiful MM romance, then look no further than William & Ryan. 🌶🌶
