The scene-setting engaged me and the plot held a decent amount of mystery, but it ultimately fell a little flat for me. A little too much fantasy for my taste. Perhaps a bit too long spent by the main character wandering the house and not really questioning much about what was happening there even though she had definitive cause to. I found Virgil and Florence's behavior and attitudes sickening but that was the point. Some things also felt unresolved, like the wound around NoemÃ's wrist and the sudden turn in Howard's health .
