The scene-setting engaged me and the plot held a decent amount of mystery, but it ultimately fell a little flat for me. A little too much fantasy for my taste. Perhaps a bit too long spent by the main character wandering the house and not really questioning much about what was happening there even though she had definitive cause to. I found Virgil and Florence's behavior and attitudes sickening but that was the point. Some things also felt unresolved
, like the wound around Noemí's wrist and the sudden turn in Howard's health
