That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America by Amanda Jones

challenging dark emotional informative inspiring mysterious reflective medium-paced

3.5

Librarian Amanda Jones had been a teacher and librarian in Livingston County schools for twenty years. She was well respected and lauded by parents. Then she decided to speak out about attempts to ban books in the library. Her friends and neighbors then turned against her, levying. nasty and unfair and untrue statements against she and the books she champions. Amanda decided to fight back however and speak up about censorship. Her statements land her in hot water with elected officials who started criticizing her on social media. She brings a defamation suit  against the perpetrators  of hate speech and loses although she continues to fight against censorship and some of the teachers are enthusiastic participants in their organizing activities.  The book was a bit slow in some places but overall a good review of a difficult and timely subject
