We’re five books into this series, and Rhork has been the primary antagonist so far. I’ve been waiting for his story, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
Deena and Rhork’s dynamic was perfection. I love that we join them after they’ve already established a bond, and we get to see how Rhork and the other Niahhorru pirates interact with a woman they respect. And, guys, the found family trope was EVERYTHING.
Deena’s character was such an interesting one to read - although it’s never mentioned, she has several characteristics that imply she’s probably autistic. And I love how Rhork and the other pirates accepted those traits and adapted to them. They also gave Deena the chance to find her own courage, and the badass pirate we got as a result was *chef’s kiss*
I did think the plot was sporadic and less cohesive than in previous books, and the climax of the book felt rushed. At its core though, this book is about Rhork and Deena, and in that aspect it did not disappoint!
Spice: 2.5/5
