I have mixed feelings on this book. I was so excited at the beginning by how much it reminded me of Newt Scamander and the Harry Potter world of magical creatures which I loved. But it caused me to overlook until about halfway through how much I disliked the main character and how selfish and judgmental she was, besides that her friend Tanya seemed a little flat. But literally when I was thinking about DNFing this book (a scene where Luciana entered and Aila was immediately thinking nasty judgy thoughts), Alia actually showed some depth and it started to improve. I think Tanya should’ve called her out a lot sooner though. I would’ve like to see more with her parents and their restaurant too, as well as Alia’s pets at home. Connor… was obvious as soon as I got to the donor party and he was still pursuing her though they were no match and when Alia mentioned he took a whole week off after his dragon hatchlings were stolen. Glad it had a happy ending but I wish there was a little more of the aftermath and future (maybe a flash forward sending off the now grown phoenix for their own breeding programs).
