The Magus by John Fowles
4.0
Gripping and mysterious, this novel takes you on a convoluted journey of events and philosophical thought, leaving you unsure of what transpired and how to feel. As a former expat who taught abroad, Nick is more relatable than I might like to admit and I found his struggles glaringly human in the context of the story's seemingly supernatural occurrences. Well-written and thought provoking, this is certainly a "literary" novel that deserves its classic status, particularly in this modern age where, increasingly, young men claim to feel sexually frustrated and isolated.
