Where do I even begin? I wrote the review for 8 before I wrote the review for 7, so things are feeling a little muddled. But I'm so glad I waited to read this until I got volume 8, because as soon as I finished this one, I nose-dived straight into the next. These books end on such cliffhangers...
Honestly the usual applies here. It took me a minute to remember things from the last volume, and while some things started clicking by the end, I was still largely confused by a lot. Does that bother me though? Honestly, not at all. The artwork, of course, is unrivaled. I adore it. I could read a million books with art like this, but Monstress does it best. And as always, I adore Kippa and everything about her. She must be protected at all costs. That heartwarming scene with Master Ren and his tail, and the way Corvin is almost like a father or older brother to her made me so happy. I felt all the things for her, and she's not even the main character.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this, and every time I finish a volume of Monstress, the urge to pick up the next volume is a tough craving to beat. It simply draws me in and refuses to spit me out, and I'm absolutely okay with that. I don't want to live in this world, but I will happily devour anything that comes out of it (no pun intended).
Also. Having the alternate cover, the moment the cover and title made sense in the context of the story, the lightbulb that went off made me ridiculously excited. So that was fun.
