The writing had a lot of redundancies that frustrated me. Example, "It doesn't snow back home in California, and I’ve loved being able to see snow fall from the sky since I don’t see it back home.” and  "None of us knows why she hates him—nobody dares to ask—but all we know is something happened, and now she can’t stand him.”

The first 5 pages are also all tell, and no show. Entire paragraphs about each character’s personality, all of the background of their friendship, etc. 

I can’t rate the actual plot, but I would recommend a content editor and line editor to help tighten the prose and improve the flow.
