This was a mixed bag for me. First of all, it is great to see so many queer characters and themes of individuality in the mange genre (especially for an older one!). I was definitely invested in the story and the fourth wall breaks were amusing. I truly appreciated the themes, especially those surrounding finding your own path. That being said - there was so much problematic stuff. Did we have an openly bi character? Yes. Were there homophobic jokes? Also yes. The trans character was mostly treated with respect but also lacked any real depth. My real problem were the incredibly toxic relationships. While at least one of them was clearly portrayed as such, I feel like younger readers could still find enough anchors to romanticise what is happening. I vaguely remember reading this over a decade ago and not picking up on the toxicity. I'm glad it ended the way it did.
