Stay with Me by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀

5.0

I know a book is good when I realize I've been reacting out loud like a goon as I'm reading. This one evoked all kinds of exclamations from me. 'Yesss!', 'Oh nooo', 'Omg', 'DAMN', 'oh shit.', to name a few.

Stay With Me is an important and powerful read. It's informative about Northern Nigerian culture and I was immediately invested in the two protagonists, navigating their genuinely loving relationship through all of the societal/familial pressures that bombard them.

What took me by surprise is how much of a well orchestrated rollercoaster mystery the story became as it progressed. This was one helluva page turner once it ramped up and I blew threw it in 2-3 days. I am wildly impressed that that this is the author's debut.
