4.25
4.25 overall stars , Plot 4.5/5, Spiciness 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Smauggy outdid herself with this one. This is a Medieval reverse harem interracial erotica that has a lot of punch . It’s my 8th Smauggy read and if you’ve also read her previous books like Malevolence you’ll see the pattern in her plots and characters (some more predictable than others). It took me awhile to warm up to Kida , Dominic and Micah but as the story progressed I fell in love with their dynamic and the story as a whole and what it stood for.
Likes:
-Loved all the main characters and the storytelling
-The “ Action” and “Fantasy “ was spectacular never boring and I’m usually not a Medieval book gal.
-Reminded me of Malevolence, the 1st book I read of hers
-Kida proves herself in the end, she redeems herself (in my eyes)
-Isaacs arc: he truly redeems himself
-Borrows elements of real world issues in compelling ways (imperialism, misogyny, classism and war)
-the plot buildup and suspense. All evenly paced. Great character arcs. I couldn’t have asked for better
Dislikes:
-Side characters are a little flat and one note as far as their personalities (Jason, Olivia, Adam, Gavin, Daniel)
-The story is not for weak stomachs. Lots of r*pe and d*ath scenes got to me, no lives were spared.
-The Spicy scenes are just fine, but didn’t excite me. Hence the 3/5 rating. Again it takes some warming up to the characters and it’s heavy on the fantasy and action element so I cared more for the plot.
-The “bad guys” seem a little one note ( they’re all tyrannical rapists and misogynists ( ). I wish there was “more “ to them than their gluttonous misogyny
-Strangely enough in a nearly all-white (except maybe Dominic?) society where misogyny and colonization are the law of the land race/racism is never mentioned and Kida and her brother Adam are never challenged for their skin color. Given their roles at the beginning and end of the story it felt strangely omitted
- Major spoiler:I hate the CHEATING trope in love triangles or romances no matter how “destined” the characters are. During her infidelity-because that’s what it was-with Isaac, Kida makes a tasteless comparison of his penis to Micah/Dominic. It made me almost hate Isaac and Kida and throw the whole book away .
-small spelling/grammar errors
-Not a dislike for me, but if you dislike her previous books you might not enjoy this book. They all have the same feel so if you don’t like Malevolence or any other, try a different series
I will buy this book when I get this chance! Whole heartedly enjoyed.
