Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs

I read this with book club and it was a really fun, standalone fantasy read! There were a lot of things I liked, including the magic system, different character POVs, and the history of magic and its abuse by those in power. It has a little bit of a dark premise (certain people can write ‘spell books’ using their own blood, so of course these people are highly sought after and manipulated into horrible situations). However, I felt like the villain plot line was a little surface level, and when combined with the overall innocence of so many of the characters, it didn’t quite give me all that I was hoping for from this book.

Did I enjoy this read? Yes, absolutely! I’m glad I read it and would recommend to readers looking for a non-stressful, fantasy standalone that’s more on the YA side.
