The Stars Are Dying by Chloe C. Peñaranda

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Overall, there were a lot of elements of this book that I liked. The opening hooked me right away, and I was so excited to see an interesting magic system, a hidden past, and a lot of potential for steamy romance. Nyte was immediately an interesting character and I love how morally gray he is.

I did find myself a little bit confused for parts of the book. Some of the scenes were hard to follow and I felt like the dialogue was jumping around a little bit. I also couldn’t decide if Astraea and Nyte were actually enemies or lovers—different scenes kept switching back and forth between these two dynamics and I wasn’t sure what the true nature of their relationship was. But, I suppose that’s the curse of being star crossed lovers and I’m hoping we’ll get more clarity as their relationship develops in the next book!

I was surprised by the vampires in the book but really liked their magic. It’s an interesting mix of vampires, fae, celestial, and humans. Overall this was an enjoyable read and I think a lot of fantasy readers will love it!
