Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker

A short and sweet story on kindness, queerness and finding peace with dire circumstances. I loved how queer and diverse the cast of characters was, without it ever feeling like the author "forced" a specific marginalization quota- I often see a lot of authors struggle with this, which is quite strange given how much stranger it is to have an all-White, all-straight and all ablebodied group of people instead. While I didn't connect to this on as deep a level as I would have liked to (this is not the book's fault, but instead my rocky relationship with YA stories), I loved the art, characters and atmosphere of the story. It's definitely a great read for days where the leaves outside crunch, yet it's too cold to do anything but sit inside and read an adorable story such as this.
