I was hesitant to read the second book, the first book surprised me and I actually really enjoyed it but I knew there was a solid chance this would have the YA trilogy treatment of the love interests being separated by a dumb miscommunication (usually a “I thought you’d be safer without me 🙄) and a shit ton of world building in order to flesh out more story. Anyway the reviews on the second book were all like “I liked the first book, but loved the second one!” And I already owned it so I thought why not let’s start it. The first chapter was good. It was downhill from there. The miscommunication starts immediately the main character is so so soooo stupid it’s hard to believe anyone can be this dumb and useless, and the whole plot revolves around finding her brother who sucks so much. Spoiler for the third book: I found out he dies in the third book and I was like at least that happens cause he sucks so much. I ended reading the last few chapters and even the inevitable “were back together because we realized it was miscommunication the whole time” part wasn’t good and emotional as it should be. Anyway the first book was good and I wished I had stopped with that one.
