I really wanted to enjoy this book and for the most part I did. The prose and scene building were beautiful, and I love any story that celebrates a grandmother.
I loved that the love interests of the characters were not their entire identity and they had development outside of that. How much development is debatable but it did exist. The way this touched on the drug epidemic affecting communities also hit very close to home.
My only main issue was that a large part of the book was placed in the city/region I'm from and I felt pulled out of the groove of reading thinking about commutes, locations etc.
That's totally on me and not the fault of the book or author at all.
I updated my review after flipping through my cascade of tabs and notes and reconsidering what it was that I didn't feel I connected with. Definitely had to reconsider my own headspace when I was reading this.
