The Gods Below by Andrea Stewart

With how very mondo much was going on in this book, I am shocked that it was consistently.... boring. I feel like there were interesting paths that could have been taken and instead it veered into: repetition, point belaboring, and too much introspection. Just with Hakara's speech at the end (because now she's in charge because of..... why??? Makes literally zero sense - she just joined, only just started to care about what they're doing, and hasn't been good at any of it. Cool. Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool), we must've popped back into her head four times for her to go: man, I have no plan for this speech, just hoping I find it, doo doo doo. Why do that for real?

All of the relationships felt incredibly manufactured to me, just as far from organic as possible. And the cult of Kluehnn wasn't believable. Like, at no point in time did the rhetoric make it even seem like they were the good guys so for reasonable people to be taken in by it never really seemed all that likely to me. Also, Rasha was..... obnoxious.

Some of the ideas in this were interesting but the execution didn't bear any of them out imo.
