How do I coherently explain the feelings that this book; the end of an ear, the conclusion to the series that started my love affair with bearded heroes, evoked in me? How do I not blubber when saying goodbye to the Winston clan, especially after seeing them fight and claw their way to HEAs –Beard Necessities gives the journey our very own eldest Winston sibling, Billy Winston takes to finally get his own HEA, especially after what we know was a very rocky beginning to his love affair in Beard With Me!
Billy and Scarlet St. Claire’s romance and their subsequent struggle to HEA is one that will tug at your heartstrings in ways you can’t even put into words – yes, this was an angst affair; but like everything Penny Reid; it wasn’t overdone nor was it too much to handle; which in my honest opinion as a romance reader, is one of the hardest balances to ever find.
In Beard With Me, we found the origins of Billy and Claire – the circumstances, the reasons and definitely the incidents that made for their origin story, individually. And with Beard With Me, you see the strong personalities that they have turned out to be; the maturity and the emotional fallout that they suffer from; not just cause of their own actions, but also due to circumstances out of their control – I adored that Penny showed the mature way to handle these fallouts for her characters, not overt drama per say; just enough for them to get a handle on their issues.
The fact that we also have other members of the Winston family; their conflicts so long in coming; and the way this family came together after such a dysfunctional childhood was nothing short of brilliant & Penny Reid has given her readers a series that they will not only re –read over the years, but also learn a lot from.
If you haven’t already ‘read this series, then you are missing out on a multitude of characters and their uniqueness; their struggles and their growth – one that I wish I could experience all over again; for the first time.
