The Vicious Vet by M.C. Beaton

3.0

I greatly enjoyed the second instalment of this series and opted to listen via the audiobook rather than a physical version. I was surprised that the narrator had changed as I'm a big fan of Penelope Keith, and found that her replacement just didn't bring the characters to life in the way she did, for example, Roy and Bill Wong.

Other than discovering a soft spot for Agatha, Bill Wong is, without doubt, my favourite character who despite being old enough to be Agatha's son, takes her under his wing and truly cements himself as a true friend and confidante. Someone, we could all do within our life.

Despite Agatha still being a bit rough around the edges, it's here that we start to get to see a different side to our protagonist, a softer side that appears with the introduction of dashingly handsome Paul Bladen who takes over the old veterinary practice. A new beau certainly puts Agatha in a brighter mood, until his untimely death, leading her on a wild goose chase to find the culprit even at the risk of her own life.

This was a great sequel to the first, and the titles are fun a quirky. They remind me of my favourite books by children's author Dick King-Smith. I'm loving following Agatha on her adventures and gives me an overwhelming desire to also move to the Cotswolds and join my very own ladies society.
