Custer Died for Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto by Vine Deloria Jr.
4.0
I will not say that I disagree with the premise of the book but I also am not sure that I agree. The author says, “the problems of Indians have always been ideological, rather than social, political, or economic.” And then also speaks about many different legal challenges. The books also seems to speak critically of the “militant” black power movement and I can’t imagine that they would’ve supported AIM. I certainly may be wrong though.
Overall though I appreciated the history, social commentary, and humor contained in this book. I was especially laughing out loud all throughout the chapter on anthropologists. This humor is so spot on, for example: “There are a number of white organizations that attempt to help Indian people. Since we would be better off without them I will not mention them except to comment that they do exist.”
