Oh absolutely no one was exaggerating about this book. Holy SHIT. A young Black woman infiltrates a predominantly white secret society on campus, learning that they still follow ways set forth during King Arthur's time, in order to discover what happened to her mother. And it only gets better from there. This is a book infused with such love and connection, that truly shines through. It is both a riveting fantasy adventure and an intimate portrayal of the costs of grief and generational trauma and violence. There are so many generational cycles these young people are trying to break and I'm cheering them all on. And god what a beautiful, powerful, resonant ending 10% of a book. I'm checking out the sequel asap.
