I would think that on your twenty first birthday, it’d be fun, lighthearted, and celebrating the joys of that day right? Well for Bailey, her birthday festivities with her then boyfriend, Luke went from good to bad when he suddenly breaks up with her. Talk about a way to ruin a perfectly decent birthday. With her newly single status, Bailey decides to hit up the club with her girlfriends, and then she comes face to face with Chase Carter a.k.a. hockey player for the Falcon’s and “the enemy” as Bailey referred to him. What was suppose to be a night of hooking up ended with Chase helping Bailey out and from there, their story began in an unlikely way either of them expected.
First off, Luke was a dumb butt, and literally did not deserve the beauty and grace that was Bailey. In a way, it worked out for Bailey because, it led her to meeting Chase. Right away, when Bailey and Chase met, I loved their banter and how it was flirty, fun, quick to strike back with comebacks back and forth. Chase was the cocky, charming guy who had moves on and off the ice, but wasn’t necessarily a player like most people assumed. Sure Chase liked the occasional party here and there, but he wasn’t going out of his way to party the whole time, he was more inclined to being low key. I liked seeing Chase and Bailey strike up an unconventional friendship in the sense that initially Bailey was adamant on not liking Chase, since he was a player for the Falcon’s, but she quickly realized that she really enjoyed hanging out with him. Even Chase couldn’t help but smile over texting Bailey and again, their conversations were lighthearted with the sprinkle of sass and cockiness from their respective selves. Obviously Chase was attracted to Bailey right away, but with her dealing with the aftermath of her breakup with Luke, Chase became a friend to her, someone to help her out as opposed to her so called “friends” who dropped her like she was an infectious disease, eww no didn’t like her roommates.
I could not get over how much I loved Chase and Violet! There are certain things I love in a book, and of the many great things included in this story, I loved seeing how protective and caring Chase was with Bailey. Based off what Chase said on how he use to be before meeting Bailey really highlighted the difference in his behavior and it was for the better! Chase got all angry hearing that Luke was spreading rumors about Bailey and wanted to pummel Luke into a fine dust, talk about over protective man! I LOVED IT! Even the way Chase got Bailey to talk about her preferences in the bedroom or just talking about intimacy in general was healthy because, everyone is different in what they do or don’t like when being sexually intimate. With Chase’s no filter talk, he was open and understanding with Bailey that although Bailey felt awkward/embarrassed, Chase made sure she felt like she was in a safe space to talk about everything out in the open. The line of communication between Bailey and Chase was one of the many things I loved about their relationship. Also, the fact that Chase organized a date night to redo Bailey’s birthday was so thoughtful and romantic! Chase was winning all the brownie points and my love grew for him more and more as I read!
Bailey had quite the journey throughout this story. Going from thinking her life was upside and not looking bright to suddenly meeting a guy (*ahem Chase) who changed her world and brought her infinite happiness. In the beginning, it seemed like Bailey had been use to letting others such as her former roommates/ “friends” and Luke say whatever they wanted to her and even treated her in an unfair way. Luke was obviously a toxic person and with him out of the picture, Bailey’s life was better especially once Chase swooped in. Bailey went from pushing aside her feelings to then literally standing up for herself like when she slapped Luke hard in the face, I was cheering for Bailey, YOU GO GIRL! I also loved seeing Bailey become more open with intimacy and learning more about what she liked and how to pleasure herself. In a way, this book covered the topic of sex and things along with it in a healthy way that allowed for Bailey to experience intimacy in a safe environment with Chase, and I really appreciated that being illustrated in the story. Bailey learned some valuable things, and with Chase opening her eyes to new possibilities as well as letting her know that what she wanted was a valid thing. Bailey became a stronger, fiercely , independent woman, and I was oh so proud of her.
Chase was all kinds of sweet, thoughtful, charming, blunt, sexy, cocky, and an overall amazing guy! Again, he could do no wrong! I genuinely liked how Chase was patient and understanding when it came to Bailey’s feelings, especially when approaching the topic of sex. Like I had a feeling the spice was going to be good, but throw in the fact that Chase wanted to ensure that Bailey enjoyed herself at all times was like, YASSS WE LOVE A GIVING MAN! Chase was all kinds of sexy in and out of the bedroom, but I loved that while he took into consideration that being intimate with Bailey for the first time was a big deal and a step further in their relationship. Spice wise, Chase and Bailey delivered! I was swooning one minute to my heart rate picking up the next to then dropping my jaw with the dirty talk and actions that Chase did! Chase Carter was a man with a dirty mouth and had many skills that were HOT AS *BEEP! WOO! Honestly lost count how many spicy scenes there were, but that’s just me. Chase and Bailey’s chemistry was evident in the way they couldn’t get enough of each other and I was ALL FOR IT!
Wow, simply wow! It feels like I’ve just completed a journey. Like it took me a long time to read, but in reality I devoured this book in two days! Non stop! Could not get enough of Chase and Bailey! This was a thick and chunky book, lots of time to really dive into the characters background, the story itself, and fully be immersed into the world of hockey. I absolutely loved Chase especially with his tendencies of being over protective and obsessed with Bailey! Bailey was a sweetheart and I loved seeing her come into her own, as well as becoming stronger throughout the course of the story. The way Chase and Bailey got together happened so naturally that it all flowed together into a seamless relationship that I adored. Again the spice was pretty amazing in my opinion, and among many reasons why I loved Chase, he had me blushing with his dirty talker! OMG! *swooning! I also loved the other characters like Siobhan and Dallas. Also can we talk a moment to appreciate not just the sentimental romantic epilogue, but also the additional five bonus chapters! FREAKING LOVED THEM! As I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, epilogues are my favorites so seeing further into Chase and Bailey’s happy ending just fueled my love and happiness for them. Overall, as you can tell by my lengthy review, I have lots of love for these characters and book, and I could probably keep going, but you get the gist. I would highly recommend reading this, I hope you love it and have fun reading it just like I did.
