The Best Girls by Min Jin Lee
5.0
A social commentary on Asian partiarchal societies
Plot: Through the eyes of the eldest daughter of the family, we're introduced to the culture, tradition, and values of a patriarchal Korean family in which a son was finally born to save the family from poverty.
Likes: The upbringing within the family through the eyes of the eldest daughter gives us a unique and crucial perception for the development of this story. Even though I wasn't sure where it was going from the start, this was fully worth the read and the end of the story will surely stay in your mind for days if not forever.
Dislikes: None
Audience: Those interested in Asia cultures, effects of strongly patriarchal societies on the upbringing of girls.
Rating: This is a 5/5 star short story, great from the beginning to the end.
