My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem

emotional informative inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced

This may be the most important therapy book I've read this year. It's a beautiful discussion of the cultural trauma that we all carry and how to combat further racial trauma in this country. There are countless exercises to help you get in touch with you body, evaluate and process your own experiences, and cope with your own cultural trauma. There's also several lists of ideas for combating racial difficulties in your own life. I especially loved the discussions of police officers - the trauma those bodies carry and what can be done to improve relations with the people that officers serve.

I've been thinking about this book since I finished it and I feel like I'll have to read it several more times to even begin to process everything in here.
